Competition on the Range
Pistol shooting included a timed drill built around a simulated hostage target, so shooters had to balance speed with accuracy. Reload drills rewarded smooth weapon handling. Next came a pistol-caliber carbine steel event, with targets engaged from standing, kneeling and prone.
Stretching Out to One Mile
The ranch has plenty of room, so the group went long. Several attendees shot at one mile with Kevin Reese’s Baby Orca chassis .300 Norma, topped with a 6.25-25×56 optic with a PRS reticle. For some, the weekend was about chasing seconds on a timer. For others, it was about waiting through a mile-long flight path for the ring of steel.
New Gear in the Field
The Prostaff got hands-on time with new and upcoming products: the Sightmark Wraith 2 384 LRF and Wraith 2 640 LRF, the Sightmark Strikon VMP V2 and the Sightmark Latitude LRF Binoculars, plus the KJI Pathfinder Ballhead and Field Table. Attendees shot with the gear, carried it around the ranch and gave feedback before it reaches a wider audience.
After Dark
When the shooting wound down, the group hunted hogs and coyotes, and several animals were taken. Night hunting was a natural proving ground for the Wraith 2 thermal sights, adding distance, movement, changing terrain and live animals that won’t stand still.
More Than a Range Day
A weekend at the ranch gave the Prostaff time together away from feeds and emails. They compared equipment, traded hunting stories, competed and talked directly with the people who develop the products they use. It’s good to be Prostaff.
